AN EXCURSION...

“Wow! An excursion.”

My heart filled with extreme joy as I heard about the final day schedule of our induction program. The news of the Science City tour being conducted for free doubled my happiness.

It was unclear whether the time for departure was too late or I woke up too early. Since I was a day scholar, I reached college in the morning, an hour early. Soon, others joined. We boarded the bus at around half past nine. Since it was only a week since my first day at college, I knew very few people. So, it gave me good opportunity to make new friends in the ninety-minute-long journey to Science City, Kolkata.

We arrived at our destination. Some of our professors had already arrived. We entered the science city. I had been to Science city earlier but going there in an excursion with friends was a different experience altogether. Before we entered, we took a group photo. The security personnel asked us, "which school are you from?"

"B.E.College, Shibpur!" we said with a hidden pride.

And sadly, one of my batch mates fainted on the ground even before our formal schedule had begun. Fortunately soon his health was good and he continued with the trip.

We first went to the space travel 3D show. It was one of a kind experience for all of us. It appeared as if we ourselves had reached an isolated asteroid in the pitch dark stillness of space. Everything around was just vacuum, it seemed. No person to speak to, no parents to scold. The entire auditorium was absolutely quiet. I gazed with utmost wonder at the star-studded 'sky' and relinquished my dream of becoming an astronaut some day.

Then it was time for our lunch.

It took quite some time for our lunch to arrive, so we roamed about the place and saw some cool gadgets and scientific wonders- the magic mirror, the infinite well, the mirror maze, musical stairs and many more. I spent a lot of time chatting with my friends, sharing experiences of my school days, trying to make a bonding with the people who would become my family for the next four years and beyond.

Lunch arrived soon after.Delicious fish fry, fried rice, chilly chicken and sweets were served.

Then we watched the solar system show and the evolution of human beings show. They were predominantly for the children. Still we enjoyed.By then, it was time for us to leave the place. We again boarded the bus and now with not so enthusiastic heart took the journey back to college. The day was so nicely spent that it set the building blocks for my ever-lasting relation with IIEST and my fellow batchmates.
