REWIND...
Actually it is quite a difficult task to remember all the incidents that happened in past and represent them properly so that others can get realistic view out of my words .I am trying to touch all sub-domains of my first year college life to make my journey of that period easily relatable .
After all admission processes was over ,I came to know that my allotment for the hostel was pending as first allotments are given to the students who live in places 100 kilometres or more from my college campus. It was not easy for me to travel regularly for having my class at 9 a.m as I had to travel around 90 kilometres to reach my campus. Moreover if you ever come to Sealdah station you will obviously hear about so-called “Bongaon local er vir” (huge crowd of Bongaon local passengers) of which I am really afraid .Within few days I realized it was really hard for me to continue my classes in this way.Fortunately one of senior 'dada' from my village somehow convinced his friend staying as a paying guest near-by to allow me to share his room until my hostel gets allotted.
I had to move there leaving my home. More painful for me was to stay there leaving my mother and sister alone. But as I didn’t have any alternative option I had to cope with my college life .At the beginning it was difficult as the atmosphere of the campus was full of unknown faces coming from different parts of my country and also atmosphere in our class was totally different from my school . So, as a shy boy from suburban area ,I was not able to introduce myself with those god damn smart kids who spoke English like the Pope. At last I found some classmates who seemed very friendly . Thus the class atmosphere became quite comfortable for me .After that when I got allotment in hostel ,I shifted myself to hostel and .
But one more difficult turn was waiting for me of which I was not aware .Suddenly college routine from 9 a.m to 4.35 p.m became boring for me as I found myself doing nothing in a whole day but going to college , returning back hostel and then finishing assignments . It seemed I was not enjoying my college life as much as my school life and I desperately wanted to go out of the monotonous routine.
Then I also found necessity of laptop for upgrading my technical skills. But I could not tell my mother as my college fees was running on loans. But a mother can read your eyes and every move of yours. She soon managed to buy a laptop for me.
To make the hostel life joyful, Subham da advised me to explore whatever gives me relief and do everything with joy. Two seniors from my department, Chitralekha didi and Sarbik dada guided me with my academics .By that time I started to realize that I was learning so many new things like to operate washing machine, using lifts for reaching class, sharing happiness with roommates ,stay focused in my work ignoring others’ interests . Besides the best parts of my 1st year hostel life are mid-night gossips with roommates, watching movie at late night , stealing cold drinks and snacks from mess when care-takers are gone , ordering Byriani on Zomato, collecting cashbacks of Gpay from my roommates .
The most enthralling and joyful moment of my 1st year college life however was playing the inter-departmental freshers football tournament for my department. It gives great pride when you don your departmental jersey. We eventually ended as the Runners-Up .
By that time I had grown close to many of my peers and found a lots of friends for talking and sharing thoughts . The more the unknown faces turned into known ones ,the more was I falling in love with my college as well as the campus and becoming a part of its joy and grief . I used return home on weekends and returned on Monday morning .But it has been more than 4 months since I came back home on a weekend . But since then, I haven't returned. I only wish that this crisis gets over soon so that I can return to the beautiful campus.
