REWIND...

Image
Actually it is quite a difficult task to remember all the incidents that happened in past and represent them properly so that others can get realistic  view out of  my words .I am trying to touch all sub-domains of my first year college life to make my journey of that period  easily relatable .    After all admission processes was over ,I came to know that my allotment for the hostel was pending as first allotments are given to the students who live in places 100 kilometres or more from my college campus. It was not easy for me to travel regularly for having my class at 9 a.m as I had to travel around 90 kilometres to reach my campus. Moreover if you ever come to Sealdah station you will obviously hear about so-called  “Bongaon local er vir” (huge crowd of Bongaon local passengers) of which I am really afraid .Within few days I realized it was really hard for me to continue my classes in this way.Fortunately  one of senior 'dada' from  my village ...

The post that goes below is an advertisement. But do not worry, we will not get paid if you see the ad ;) . It is in fact an advertisement by us, for us.  The website of knowIIESTS is going to be launched soon. The website has been developed by four students of the Department of Computer Science and Technology, IIEST Shibpur- Snehasish Dhar, Devtanu Misra, Malay Gain and Sounak Majumder. Kudos to them! The amazing photograph of our beautiful campus has been captured by Soumyadeep Biswas, another student from the Department of Computer Science and Technology, IIEST Shibpur. #knowIIESTS #Bikkolej

A COLLEGE FULL OF DISILLUSIONMENT...

Image
Remember walking into a college full of people, and then slowly realizing that you are not what you thought you were. That you’re not best. That’s what IIEST looked like to me – a group of people better than me. Suddenly I am disillusioned – and more pained than humbled. There was this deafening show of skills and qualities of everyone around me – including my own show. The first week, all together with all kinds of false facades and walking with chest upright in the campus, was the most bitter period of hostel life. Away from home, family and deprived of love and food. Yeah, my roommates were my solace. I spent hours entertaining them, and they amusing me. And I once said, very jokingly and honestly – “You peeps actually laugh at my style of telling – not the joke. The joke is not funny” So, I basically went through the pain of disillusionment and didn’t end up being humbled. Maybe that was just my own case, maybe not. But really, for a few revealing, almost cathartic mo...

HOSTEL NIGHTS...

Image
Be a boarder of IIEST hostel and feel the mesmeric magic of IIEST campus. The hostel life will give you an enormous and vast opportunity to enjoy, have fun and learn. It may sound like an advertisement but IIEST surely does not need one. It is a fact. IIEST,rather B.E.College, is well famous for its green campus and being a hosteler, I have devoured its beauty at its full essence. The class is from 9.00 am to 4.35 pm. But the real class starts after 4.35 pm. Midnight talks are very common on subjects of wide variety- literally anything and everything under the sun. Be it CAA-NRC or Indian Foreign Policy or the latest Salman Khan release. And sometimes just sheer nonsense. It is during these talks that you realize that each one has a different set of interests. Mess is the place we have discussions, criticize the professors and the grading system till we are fully satisfied, curse surprise tests, all this amidst “enjoying” the mess food. By the way, like other colleges, our mess f...

ON THE WAY BACK...

Image
On a bright Wednesday morning after the Physics class got over, I was quietly resting in the class when my classmate, Abhay( name changed for obvious reasons) gave a thunderous punch on my back and asked me to get up. He wanted me to suggest a place to go and kill this free time.  Without much thought I suggested Botanical garden as it was close and tickets cost a mere ten rupees. So in the next 5 minutes all my dizziness went away. As we crossed the gate of Botanical Garden, suddenly we saw our atmosphere change from concrete buildings to lush green trees. We were walking through the streets surrounded by big deciduous trees and I loved the smell of the atmosphere immensely. We then reached where the iconic banyan tree stood.  It was literally huge. The magnificent banyan appeared to rule the kingdom of trees with its huge area and size.  After relishing the splendid view for quite some time, we decide to go back as our next class was to start in just 20 minutes.  S...

JOURNEY SO FAR...

Image
It was 9 PM that day. The result of JEE(Main) was out.  With vigorous tension I opened the portal and saw my result….. A sigh of relief. I went to my parents and told “I will surely get chance in BE College”.  From that day onward my mind had opted for this institute as my next destination. With many dreams in my two eyes I entered the college on the day of document verification. I was mesmerized. I had never seen such a huge, magnificent campus before.  The greenery, the clock tower, the lakes- all were simply excellent, and I didn’t expect a graveyard inside the college. With all the counselling procedure getting over,  came 24 th July- the first day of my college. The first thing I experienced was that nobody knows IIEST but everyone knows 'bikkolej' .  I entered the class. A new journey began. After some days there was a tour to science city with my classmates. I enjoyed thoroughly. More importantly the classmates were promoted from being mere 'classmates' t...

AN EXCURSION...

Image
“Wow! An excursion.”  My heart filled with extreme joy as I heard about the final day schedule of our induction program. The news of the Science City tour being conducted for free doubled my happiness.    It was unclear whether the time for departure was too late or I woke up too early. Since I was a day scholar, I reached college in the morning, an hour early. Soon, others joined. We boarded the bus at around half past nine. Since it was only a week since my first day at college, I knew very few people. So, it gave me good opportunity to make new friends in the ninety-minute-long journey to Science City, Kolkata.   We arrived at our destination. Some of our professors had already arrived. We entered the science city. I had been to Science city earlier but going there in an excursion with friends was a different experience altogether. Before we entered, we took a group photo. The security personnel asked us, "which school are you from?" "B.E.College, Shibpur!"...
